Adult Paddlesport Instructing - British Canoeing Instructor (16 yrs+)
Delivered and assessed across 2 days, the Paddlesport Instructor course is aimed at those wishing to instruct taster/starter sessions and short journeys in very sheltered water environments, for a centre/club/organisation.
The qualification includes both instruction and assessment with practical skills such as
- kitting up a group and getting afloat
- initial familiarisation activities, games and activities to support learning
- how to use mini journeys to support learning, inspire adventure and exploration
The qualification will cover a range of stable craft including kayak (this can be open-cockpit or closed-cockpit), open canoe, sit on top and stand up paddleboard. Candidates will be certificated in one craft but able to instruct a mixed fleet.

Pre-requisite: Candidates requirements pre-course
- Comfortable independently paddling chosen craft, standard equivalent of: Explore Award (or old 2 star).
- Able to efficiently paddle your craft solo in all directions, keep yourself upright during activities and confidently engage in supporting/assisting other paddlers.
- Candidates MUST have attended Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Training at least 2 weeks prior to commencing paddlesport instructor course
- Full membership of British Canoeing (or other home nation) is required
- Instructor registration (including associated British Canoeing fee) should be completed 2 weeks prior to course and forwarded to whitlingham@norfolk.gov.uk
Course participants may in future progress onto: Paddlesport Leader, SUP Sheltered Water Leader, Sheltered Water Coach (Canoe and/or Kayak) or other coach courses
