Adult Paddlesport Coaching - British Canoeing Sheltered Water Coach Training 16 yrs+
The Coach Awards are designed for people who wish to coach both beginners new to the sport and paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline/environment.
The coach is able to plan, deliver and review progressive sessions safely, effectively and independently. A qualified coach can operate away from the direct supervision of a centre/club, leading journeys or delivering at other venues.
Delivered across 2 days, the Sheltered Water Coach Training is the second step to becoming a full coach after Core Coach Training. Next steps include a consolidation/development period followed by craft/discipline specific coach assessment.
Sheltered Water Coach Training content includes: practical implementation of the skills learnt in the core coach training in chosen environment (in this case sheltered water), coaching philosophy, warm-ups, decision making, information gathering (observation skills and knowledge), analysis of performance, site specific coaching, coaching on the move, progressive session planning, peer review coaching, incident management, rescue skills and debriefing skills.
The training includes both classroom and practical learning. The training can be completed in a range of stable craft and practical sessions take place on very sheltered/sheltered water. If candidate wishes to later be assessed in both kayak/canoe combined they are expected to be skilled in both craft types. Please contact the centre to talk further with our coach tutor/assessor.
