Adult Paddlesport Safety - British Canoeing Safety and Rescue Training(16 yrs+)
The course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of their chosen craft. The objective is to introduce, explore and practice simple strategies and safe skills that can provide the paddlers with the tools to solve common paddling issues.
All required craft and equipment for the course is provided by the centre free of charge, however participants are also welcome to bring own equipment.
Whitlingham Adventure runs its paddlesport safety and rescue courses over a longer 8 hours giving learners ample opportunity to explore simple strategies and safe skills that can provide the tools to solve common paddling issues. The course content focuses on rescuing from the paddlers chosen craft/s and covers equipment, safety frameworks, as well as a range of rescues including contact and towing rescues, self-rescues and deep water rescues.
- BC Explore or equivalent ability in chosen craft.
- Able to swim confidently in normal paddling clothing suitable for the prevailing conditions
- Have good independent paddling skills in at least one type of craft.
- Able to efficiently paddle your craft in all directions, keep yourself upright during activities and confidently engage in supporting/assisting other paddlers.
Course cost includes British Canoeing Candidate Administration fees (typically ip to £16 depending on British Canoeing membership status). So no further payment is required.
This course is a prerequisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor and useful when preparing for British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader and Sheltered Water Coach Award Scheme.
