Adult Paddlesport Leading - British Canoeing Leader Training (16yr+)
British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader Award is a qualification for those wishing to lead groups of paddlers on sheltered water such as the Norfolk Broads or slow moving rivers/canals. Leaders can deliver British Canoeing courses: Paddles Start and Discover and work towards delivery of Explore.
The award scheme consists of:
- This two day development training covering: leadership, rescue skills and paddling skills across the mixed paddlecraft types (Kayak, Canoe, Paddleboard).
- Then, when ready, Paddlesport Leader Assessment - an arranged day assessment of a sheltered water paddle journey you have planned, with a group you have organised, along with a rescue skills assessment.
Once assessed you will be qualified to lead mixed paddlecraft sheltered water journeys.
Once assessed you will be qualified to lead mixed paddlecraft sheltered water journeys.
Pre-requisite:
- 16yrs
- To get the best from your training course you need to feel comfortable in or on your craft and be able to independently paddle on sheltered water. Therefore, we recommend holding the the Paddle Explore Award (or equivalent skill) before booking on your training.
Training will support you to run safe and enjoyable trips, based on your group’s needs and aspirations. It will lay out the path and requirements for an aspirant leader to present for assessment.
Course cost includes the British Canoeing (member) fee for Paddlesport Leader training attendance certification.
Should the trainer confirm that all required elements have been evidenced then an individual can elect to purchase British Canoeing Touring Award and/or Stand Up Paddleboard Sheltered Water Award certification for an additional fee of £10.40 per certificate (British Canoeing member price).
